Smart Grooming on Grooming

There was a time when horses were strapped, not just quickly brushed...
In traditional yards, strapping was a daily routine. Grooms would spend time properly working the coat, stimulating the skin and bringing out the natural oils that give a horse that healthy shine.
It wasn’t just about appearance. Regular grooming removed sweat, dirt and loose hair from the coat, encouraged circulation and helped maintain healthy skin. It was also one of the best ways to properly check a horse over, noticing small changes like heat, swelling or rubs before they became bigger problems.
Today, when time at the yard can feel limited, it’s easy to think “I’ll just give them a quick brush.” But the principles behind good grooming haven’t changed.
Taking those extra few minutes to groom properly helps support healthy skin, improves coat condition and keeps horses comfortable.
Sometimes it’s worth remembering why it was such an important part of horsemanship in the first place
